Bush's Incompetence is Destroying Iraq and Weakening America

Lately, I've been posting links instead of writing articles. While I think that's probably a lot more useful for you folks out there, I do miss putting sentences together. Also, I want to draw some themes out of what I'm posting.

Today I posted three articles: Most Senior Officers Say Iraq 'Graver than Vietnam, Protesting Mother Arrested, Crowd Callous About Her Dead Son, and Soldiers Threatened with Iraq Duty to Coerce Re-enlistment.

So what themes are there? Well, I guess the most obvious one is domestic politics. Um, that's a joke. Actually, I do care a lot about domestic politics, but lately I'm focused on the myth that Bush is strong on terrorism, or even that's he's strong on the Iraq War. Those are two separate things, but Bush won't mention that. In fact, Bush will repeatedly tell you that Iraq is somehow part of responding to the 9/11 attacks, even though report after report has concluded that there were no strong links between Saddam Hussein and Al Qaeda, nor Hussein and 9/11.

There's a reason Bush wants to move the subject from the Iraq War to the War on Terrorism: because the Iraq War has become a fiasco. Many supporters of the war now see how terribly Bush has handled it, and I'm trying to get that word out. This isn't about opposing the war, or the goals of the war. It's about an honest assessment of whether Bush is competent.

Bush supporters make various arguments against the evidence of Bush's incompetence. Some out and out deny that the war is going badly, in spite of the fact that troops are actually dying more quickly now that in the months past, and American troops control less terrority than they used to. Bush keeps telling us that we're winning the war, and things are better in Iraq every day. Bush's statement simply isn't true, and quick browsing of nearly news source covering the war shows that. That doesn't mean that the war shouldn't be fought, just that it's not true that things are getting better every day.

The right first step in dealing with Iraq is admitting that truth. We can't just keep doing what we've been doing. We're hemorrhaging in Iraq, losing people nearly every day; and conditions are actually getting worse for the Iraqis. We went in trying to help their country, and Bush's incompetence is leading them to hate us.
