Well, today was a beautiful day. it finally rained here. We've been needing it desperately! It's been 90+ degrees outside for about a month straight with varying humidity (between 40% and 60%, which may not seem like a lot, but this area is usually only in the 20% range this time of year). The rain was a welcome change. I can finally give my poor air conditioner a rest. It's supposed to stay rainy and cool (only in the 70's) through Wednesday. Even if we hadn't needed the rain, I'd still be happy. I love the rain. Everyone tells me I need to move to the coast, and I fully intend to after I'm done with college. I lived with my mom for a while last year and they get about 300 inches of rain a year (not to mention the 10 feet of snow), so I got a taste of coastal weather and fell in love with it. I wasn't too thrilled about the lack of sun though. Dark hit around 4pm and stayed until about 10am, that was kind of depressing. But the rain wasn't depressing at all.
It seemed like it was one phone call after another today. My mom called shortly after I got up, to let me know that they DO have my allergy medicine up there, and it's OTC for only $20 Canadian, which is what I pay in US funds for my prescription every month. Then, one of my friends, Kim, called to let me know she was coming to town. She just moved to a place about 3 hours away for school. I've known her for several years, she dated my cousin before she came to work at good ole wally world. So, she and I have plans to go out to a late lunch tomorrow, since it's 2am and I just got home.
Work was alright. I walked into what looked like a war zone, but it only took me an hour and a half to get mostly caught up. Part of that was because I knew Kim was going to stop by to visit with all of us. It made me want to hurry so I could take my lunch when she showed up. She called into the office around 10, which was perfect, because I'd just gotten caught back up. We went and talked in the breakroom and had a couple smokes. She told me she'd seen my cousin while she was visiting her parents, and he's doing good. Which is good to hear, since I never talk to the boy myself. Most of my extended family I never see. My family and I moved from the town that they're all in when I was about 11, and I'm so busy I rarely get a chance to visit.
I stopped by to visit with my dad at work before heading home tonight. I had to pick up some groceries anyway. All the guys on Dad's crew like to give me shit. Probably because it's so obvious that I am my father's daughter. I've always been a "Daddy's girl." One of the guys came up to me with this shit eating grin on his face and asked if he should call us at 3am again. A week ago he called about 15 minutes after I'd fallen asleep. I debated answering it, thinking maybe it was an emergency or something, but by then I was awake enough that I looked at the caller ID, groaned, rolled over, and went back to sleep. The next day I went grocery shopping and yelled at the guys for callin at 3am. Pain in the ass. Sheesh! One of the other guys knows someone I work with, and the guy I work with found out that I was listed on one of those online dating sites and has flipped me shit for it ever since. So, Art came up to me tonight and asked if I'd found someone that was sarcastic enough for me yet. Then, as I was grabbing my milk, I stuck my head in the cooler and yelled at Dad asking, "What all did we need from the store." He couldn't see me, or hear me very clearly, so he yelled back, "WHAT?" So I asked what we needed again, and he said "What the hell?!" He thought one of the freight guys was messing with him again, until he saw me peeking through the milk cartons at him. He started cracking up, and we were loud enough that all the guys on the crew that were nearby were laughing too.
So, all in all it was a good day. Something I'd needed badly, lemme tell ya. Maybe soon the good days will balance out the bad. It can't be too bad, my vacation starts in a week and a half. I sooooo need it. Three weeks off from work. Two of which will be up at my mom's where I don't have to do a damned thing except put my dishes in the dishwasher. Everything else is taken care of. Thank god.
