Sports have provided us with many outstanding examples of leaders worth learning from. There are so many, it is difficult to single one out. We have many great coaches and players who exemplify character and resilience.
Vince Lombardi coached a team of destiny. He was a coach who raised professional football to a new level. His principals are used today by all coaches in the NFL in one way or another. He firmly believed a man can be as great as he wants to be. He would say, “If you believe in yourself and have the courage, the determination, the dedication, the competitive drive and if you are willing to sacrifice the little things in life and pay the price for the things that are worthwhile, it can be done. Once a man has made a commitment to a way of life, he puts the greatest strength in the world behind him. It’s something we call heart power.”
Once a man has made this commitment nothing will stop him short of success. Vince Lombardi was a unique leader in his ability to bring out the best in his players. Their lives have been made better as a result of his leadership.
