What the hell is wrong with the truth?

Why do some men avoid telling the truth like the plague?

Nowbefore I start this is not meant to generalize or demean men or any of that bullshit. It's just that in my experince I have very rarely had a male in my life that can tell the truth on a regular basis. Wether it is if he dropped off the movies at the store to where the hell he was for 3 hours, it seems like my BF thinks he gets points for avoiding the truth for as long as possible. Most of the time it is just inane shit. Is it like some vow they take at puberty?

Do solemly swear to annoy, confuse, and bewilder my wife,girlfriend,etc. to the point she is ready to kill me by avoiding at all costs anything that resembles a truthful answer to a question that is asked of me. I swear to deny any accusations of said lying and make the female feel like she is a nagging bitch. No matter how petty the lie is I will swear to its truthfulness to my grave, so help me god"

It drives me insane. When I ask a question I want a freaking answer not some BS story. My BF is the most uncreative person I have ever met, except when it comes to lying. We live together. Just the two of us, yet when I ask him if he drank all but three molecules of the orange juice and put it back in the fridge he will adamantly deny any involvement. What the hell? Apparently a thief broke into out apartment, passed up the TV, DVD player, computer and drank the last of the oj.

Now I know I will have some guys who say that women are just as big of liars as men are. I won't deny this but if it bothers you that much go write your own damn blog about it.

So if any of you females want to compare notes and trade stories on the dumbass stuff your man lies about feel free.

THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE...EITHER THAT OR GET YOU SHOT AT.

If you already knew the answer why ask the question.....it sounds from this post that you watch your boyfriend very closely. Most men object to having every action questioned or feeling like they are being watched all the time. Here is a tip from a male....dont ask too many questions and you wont get told too many lies......

We men lie because you women set us up.

Examples: "does my butt look big?" C'mon now, really. Do you expect us to tell the truth? "Yeah, honey...some kid just stuck a 'wide load' sticker back there"?

Or, how about this one: "Do you think that girl is pretty?" What do you think would happen if you said "Yeah, she fills out in ALL the right places"?

Sometimes I'll lie about completely obvious stuff like that because there is no way its someone elses fault. So it almost becomes a game about thinking up the most creative and unlikely course of events that leads up to you not being responsible for it. Deep down we know you know, and we know you know we know you know (etc etc). So admitting we did it seems like a boring and repetive step. Why not at least make the other person laugh. I view those situations as me admitting I was the one responsible, but instead of just admitting to it, telling a rediculous story that nobody could believe. At least thats more interesting. And maybe a way to admit responsibility without actually admitting responsibility.

However, I just use that tactic for little stupid stuff. Like the OJ container situation. I don't resort to that particular technique for serious subjects. The best situation might be to ignore the little occurances of this particular habit of his. Or maybe play along. "Darn theives, they didn't even have the common courtesy to throw the carton away. Could you throw it away for me?"

Its just a game. Of course if he's doing the same thing for serious issues, then you got a problem.

Well I used the OJ situation mostly for laughs but my BF does lie about larger more important things which I'd rather not put in a public forum. Gideon, suprisingly I don't ask my BF the loaded questions that you mentioned because I know the answer and actually really don't care about that. I guess I am just one of the few people who believes in total honesty. If I am asked a question I answer it truthfully. If it is gonna get me in trouble than so be it cause lying just makes it worse.

it doesnt sound like men are the problem, just the men you pick. cause, like you said, women do it too. you just dont happen to date them. so find a GOOD man and then youll come back with a post "why are men so damn great? i mean, of course ladies are great too. but, men, really, why are you so awesome?" and then ill comment on that post "we're awesome cause we throw out the juice box, put down the toilet seat, and give you thousands and thousands of kisses." just remember, and this goes for EVERYONE, all your failed relationships have one thing in common....YOU!

of course i was just kidding with this post so dont eat my face, please. and, yes, im man....im ALL man, lady! (mallrats quote)

I'm not saying that my man isnt a great guy, its just the petty, stupid lying that drives me up the wall. He works hard, is very attractive and is very loving. I'm just the kind of person that hates lying is all I am saying. I just think that after working 8 hours, coming home and cooking, doing laundry, packing his lunch, and cleaning up after him that I deserve the truth when I ask for it.

The best advice I can give you is pick your battles wisely.  As far as lying from my own experiences, most of the time I lied about things as simple as putting the orange juice back in the fridge to avoid the petty argument that would arise from my confessions.  There are many different reasons for other men but maybe it depends on how the truth is received when it is stated.  Then there is the other extreme.  With my last girlfriend I was brutally honest and it caused me more trouble then if I told a mild lie every once in a while, so it's a double edged sword depending on the situation and people.

Yeah there is no way I could know every scenario that has happened. I am just saying my personal thoughts because I'm a guy and you might be able to use that as a male opinion.
