Another tale of flesh-eating zombies. I think I outgrew these years ago, but this flick is the fun stuff that slumber parties are driven by.
We waited for this one to go to the "Dollar Show," and even then, saw it because there was nothing else playing.
I was pleasantly surprised. What a fun movie. If you can't get to the theater to catch it, pick it up from your rental store when available. Make sure the kiddies of something else to do that night (wink). Nice blend of humor, suspense, and bloody horror. And for what it's worth, I'm overly critical of "horror" movies.
In the opening of the movie, our leading lady (played by the underappreciated Sarah Polley) is finally getting off a long shift as a nurse at the local hospital, wondering why someone who came in earlier with a bite is now in ICU. Great lead in.
We see our first zombie attack before the title even pops up on the screen. The whole movie advances this well. The director (first timer? Zach Snyder) moves the story along while allowing you to get to know the characters. He shifts effortlessly between fun and fear.
Ving Rhames (Kenneth) kicks butt, as always. And I have a new crush on British import, Jake Webber (Michael).
A couple of thumbs up for this one. Fans of horror flicks should dig it.
If anyone has seen this and the original 1978 version, I'd love a comparison of the two.
