What's your ideal phase lane length?

That huge map I created has some problems. see below:





What do you suggest I set the phase lane bar at, so I can have enough time to prepare for incoming attacks, but the trips dont last 45 minutes and up?

The phase lane length in custom maps is dependent on 3 factors.

1) Phase lane length - from my experiments this actually has the LEAST effect on the length.

2) Map Size - The second biggest contributor to length. A larger map size will make the solar systems more spread out.

3) Orbit Distance - the most important factor. Cutting this down will dramatically slash the length of lanes.

BAM! thanks man. it's dissapointing i spent 2 nights working on this one, gotta start a new one. oh well, at least it wont happen again!

Actually, I ran some tests, and phase lane length either doesn't affect transit time at all, or it is aboslutely minimal.

However, it does affect the maximum length the phase lanes can be. I noticed changing this setting will greatly affect how many planets are connected. Especially if the system doesn't have a huge amount of planets. (And yes, I am talking about "Length", not "chance")

This is completely contradictory to what the manual says, but its what I've observed.
