Then I had softball practice, on Monday and Wednesday. There's not a whole lot to tell about it, really. It's fun, it's great to be out there, doing that shit again. I love it; it makes me feel so great. I need to ride my pony (okay, my horse) more and also run more. I'll be in tip-top shape soon. *cough*
I was the "second coach" on Wednesday night. Our second coach, Abby wasn't there so I was the one catching and chasing the balls around. It was great fun. Not. But then his daughter did it for a while, so I could actually practice!
There's this girl on our team named Brittany. Her name fits her so well, too. She's one of the ones I remember most vividly at tryouts. She's gotta be about fourteen, and all I remember is her mouthing off to her mother, or at least having an attitude toward her. We were both a couple minutes late on Wednesday, and she started cussin' (with a cute little smile on her face)... this is how it went, basically:
"Yeah, I hate softball, I hate sports" blah blah... (other than a "hi" I had never really talked to her before, so this was a great conversation starter with your team-mate)
"Then why are you in it?" I asked.
"Because my parents are making me, they're making me be in swimming too"
"Well, why are they making you do it?"
"I guess they don't want me sitting around all summer" she replied.
"Oh... so if it were your choice what would you be doing with your summer?"
She shrugs and smiles again "I don't know, hanging out with my friends"
And that was basically it. She has that attitude about softball too. She wears white/silver prominent eye make up, just like you'd picture a Brittany to do. She wears tight little "cute" clothes, and just stands there looking "cute" most of the time. You can tell she's not into it. And it's not that she'd be that bad at it if she tried, it's just she's bad because she doesn't try. You'd think she'd grow out of her junior high stage and just try for the team and make the most of it, right? Wrong.
