Deskscapes doesn't do anything

help?

I just bought Object desktop primarily to get the dreamscapes application for my Window home premium edition... (well windowblinds and icon manager too but Dreamscapes is what finally made it worth the price)

everything seems to install and load fine but no dreamscape will apply... I've run as an administrator and everything but no Dream file will load or work.. there are no error messages or anything just my old walpaper..

am I doing something wrong??

Whoops I should be adding I'm running windows home premium 64 bit version... it should work right???

Stardock products which work with DreamScapes from Microsoft work ONLY with Vista ULTIMATE at the present time, AFIK. To use them, the Vista Ultimate Extras (specifically, DreamScapes) MUST be installed.

I think Stardock plans to have non-ULtimate functionality with DeskScapes eventually, even porting it to versions of Windows previous to Vista. But it's NOT ready, yet.

Want Deskscapes? GET ULTIMATE!!!


NOTE: Windows Vista Ultimate Extras are ONLY for those who were willing to pay for Vista Ultimate.

Deskscapes 2 works on versions of vista other than ultimate. to the original poster, make sur eyou have sdc set to show pre-releases and you should see deskscapes 2

Thanks all... I can see and intall deskscapes and it even runs... I've installed and uninstalled a couple times both as an admin and as not doesn't make any difference. I can see everything and am getting no error messages.

it just won't switch my desktop to an aninmated one. I select a *.dream file and the program closes with no errors but no animated desktop. just my origional background.

I'll create a ticket it MAY have to do with activation of deskscapes....

I was just checking if there was a setting or something in windows I have to change to enable the animated desktops.

1)I made a mistake in my original response, and thought I had corrected it: Rather than calling the Microsoft product "Windows(TM)Utimate Extras Dreamscene", as it should be, I called it "Windows DreamScapes". This probably caused some confusion, since the two titles "DreamScene" (Microsoft) and "DeskScapes" sound so similar.

2) Until I got "Windows(TM) Dreamscene" properly installed on my Vista Ultimate SP1 RC1 Refresh build, I was unable to use Stardock's(TM) "DeskScapes", which is supplied with Object Desktop Network Edition. They would start, run a few seconds, then suddenly stop. Since I've got all things straightened out, they run magnificently together.

3) If I try downloading any DeskScapes from WinCustomize under XP or Vista Home Premium, I am told either by Stardock Central/WinCustomize that such downloads are ONLY for those who have Vista Ultimate, and they simply refuse to be downloaded or installed.

4) ALL of this leads me to believe the following:

To install and use Stardock's DeskScapes one must have Vista Ultimate w/Ultimate extras, including "Windows Dreamscenes", installed.

As to the various formats which either Stardock DeskScapes or Windows Dreamscene use, below are a small list:

Stardock DeskScapes: *.dream (I don't know of any other formats it will use. I think it uses its own media engine? PLEASE correct me, if I am wrong.


[There is a check box to use either the Internal Player (whether this is Microsoft's or Stardock's, I know not) or another(I suspect this means the active or default engine, since I've changed it to QuickTime before, and all the video icons became QuickTime icons.)]


Windows Dreamscenes: *.mpg, *.avi, *wmv (It will probably use almost any format Windows Media Player will recognize and play, since it uses (by default) the Windows Media Player engine)

I don't know whether or not these formats are interchangable between WMP/WMC and Stardock DeskScapes. I suspect this is probably so, IF one with such formats are wrapped up into a *.dream file.

I'm having the exact same problem, I bought the suite yesterday after seeing it working on my mates lower spec laptop and when I go to personalise and select an animated desktop, the screen seems to flicker once (which looks like it tried to do something) then nothing....same background as before, nothing there.
I've been restarting the laptop, took any skins off, not sure what else to do as I bought it mainly for this, and it doesn't work.

I'm on Vista Home 32 bit, 2Ghz CPU, 2GB Ram, with an NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS graphics card.
