Question on Graphic Requirement

I have a Gateway Laptop. The specs are:
4000Ghz + Single Core CPU
1.5GB of DDR Ram
Intergrated ATI x600 /w 64MB of Ram

My video Card is an ATI x600 with 64MB of Ram, but it uses the System Ram as well and when I look at the card info, it says it has a total of 256MB of Video Ram.

I have just pre-ordered SINS, what I want to know is if the game will see the 64MB of Ram or the 256MB of Ram. Do I meet the the system requirement to play the game at a decent rate?

I'm a bit confuse on how the video card use the the additional Ram as part of the video Ram. Can anyone shed a light on this?

When a game needs more texture memory than a video card has natively, the additional texture info is automatically dumped to system RAM and from there to the hard disk once the system RAM is used up. This makes things progressively slower the further along the chain you go.

Sins may run on your laptop; I would definitely make sure you have all other programs closed while playing, however (i.e., don't have IE open in the background).

Ok. Thanks. I guess I just can't play the larger maps. I'm a few months away from a new laptop. Thinking of getting a new Laptop in a month or so. I would like a desktop, but I really can't sit in one place too long.

Thats an iffy statement -- you might not be able to do them multiplayer, but I while it would slow down, single player might be doable.

I always got my desktop until then. My desktop isn't that great.
It's an AMD 64 3000+
2GB of DDR RAM
7600GTS /w 256MB of RAM

I built this machine a few years ago, but its been running my games pretty well. And as far as the higher end Games like Crysis, I always have my 360 for those since they always tend to port them to that.

Your desktop is better than the laptop... should have no problems at medium graphics or even high.

Funny you should mention Crysis and 360, because yesterday I read that Crytek is going to port its CryEngine to 360

I run with an AMD FX-55, 2 GB ram, and a 7800GTX and Sins runs with playable FPS at 1280x1024, with 2vs2 galaxy setups. I wouldn't worry unless you plan on playing with many ships and big maps.

i love playing big massive games. even in Galciv 2, I play the huge maps with a lot of aliens. but my main concern is for my laptop since I would like to play it while on the road and I'm always on the road.

My PC was pretty much top of the line when I built it a little over a year ago. It should have no problems with Sins I hope. It handles Crysis at medium settings with good resolution and the graphics in Sin's isn't doing as much as Crysis. Still, I would imagine all the variables and AI that are going on, a good dual core will really help along with more memory.

Did I read it right that it supports more than dual core? I was looking for a good reason to upgrade, maybe this is it? Lots of AI + multi galaxy map anyone? God, I just want to play instead of sat here procrastinating.

Nope, Sins won't use more than 2 cores.

Your desktop can run sins just fine, im currently running the beta at the max settings with little or no lag issues with my:

AMD Sempron 2800+ (1.6ghz overclocked to 1.8ghz)
Nvidia 6800 GT OC Ultra 256mb
2gb of ram

Of course when I go to play it online, I turn the settings real low, cause it does lag alot with settings on high for me, but i am able to play the huge maps no problem.

I just finished dl the beta. Might as well try it out on my Laptop and see how far I can run it to before it begins lagging. Quick question. Is the performance of the beta be the same as the final release?

Like most beta's i'm guessing performance will be worse than the final release. Although i can say that Beta 4 performed admirably when i first tried it. (got it yesterday) Only my largest fleet against the AIs largest even slowed it down, and then not by much.

No, the release will be more demanding - higher res textures, and a lot of the Beta effects are placeholders.
