It is odd looking at legos today and wanting to get $500 worth and sit down to build them!

Not so odd: My sixth-grade daughter has just competed in her second state-wide/nation-wide LEGO Mindstorms-based contest. Lots of real-world calculations to arrive at end points. We love LEGOs. Someday...a visit to LEGOLAND.
My fourth-grade son is Mr. LEGO. They're everywhere. Three banked track layouts, six switches, complete "Daylight Express" with two engines. I put an extra motor in each, for a total of four!(snort!) When I was a kid, I rode on the Daylight many many times. L.A. to S.F to San Diego and around!
I'm pre-LEGO. Had a four-car-garage-sized
LIONEL
layout, four feet off the floor, with lakes you'd swing down from underneath to be able to stand up and work throughout the whole room! Ahhh... nostalgia.
Now the dam_ things howl every nite just down the street...

LEGOS are cool. I want a lego-constructed desk, monitor-frame, mouse, and tower/case. Lots of LEGO-shaped food out there, cereals, candy... ...legos....
Old.
We had Erector Sets. Not as polished as Meccano, but awesome, nonetheless. Huge, ancient motors from the '40s or 50s... Made a cannon from it. Put a .50cal 2oz. homemade slug thru both sides of an old DeSoto easy ...
erm, it took about 1/2lb fffG black powder to run it
