As I've gotten older, my ability to deal with cooler weather, and the dry heat that comes with it, has gotten worse. I don't mind the cool weather at all really. Actually I prefer it to oppressive heat and humidity from summer months, but that's just me (and my thoughts of having to pay a fortune to run the air conditioner to keep cool during those times).
Winter months come around, the weather gets cooler, and into downright cold, the heat comes on, and I start to settle into a routine of warming the house with the furnace set to heat up on the automatic timer in the a.m. At about the time this cycle and season really kicks in though, I find myself becoming a walking scratching post down around my ankles and my hands. Dry, cracked, scaley skin. Skin that itches like crazy and begs to be scratched.
It is about this time of year that I break out the Cortisone cream with Aloe in it and apply a dose or two a day for about a week to get things back under control, and then hopefully use another dose or two here and there to keep things cool later.
For now I guess I'm dealing, but I swear the cotton socks I have one currently are really making me want to just cut off my legs at the ankle. Ugh.
