With palms together,
Good Morning Everyone,
In the morning light everything looks so fresh. The desert's chill on the leaves of the tree outside my window gives them a crispness that by mid-morning is diminished and by late afternoon, the sun has left the branches to bear what seem to be wilted and lethargic communities. A chilly morning brings robust behavior to horses and dogs, and people bustle to and from their cars. What a difference a few degrees can make. Its a refreshing change from the last days of summer.
Yesterday afternoon we sat in the cafe at Barnes and Noble Bookstore with coffee and good friends. My friend Abe, a psychiatrist, and I talked about memory, mirror neurons, and growing up in Argentina. His wife, Amy, also a psychiatrist, talked closely with Judy, as their kids read books nearby. We were later joined by my son and his partner, Julie. Jacob is a chef, Julie teaches English composition at the local university. Jacob has created a new menu for a local restaurant and wanted to share it. What a pleasant afternoon.
My Little Honey and I then went to see the film, "Gone, Baby, Gone". I must say this was a difficult film. The writing was real and the actors played real-life people from a Boston neighborhood, and the story was really about our community morality set against our individual morality, viz-a-viz children and families. It was sobering. At the same time we left the theatre with haunting questions as to whether the protagonist did the "right" thing. This is the best sort of outcome leaving a film or a book. Too often of late, formula movies, books, and television leave us without much of a challenge. I often feel as if I'm eating a jar of Gerber's peas or worse.
Life is like that: sometimes you choose baby food and sometimes a real peach. Its important to live your life as if each has its place. Not everything is quantum physics or a search for the infinite. Sometimes we need to relax and enjoy the good company of friends and family.
Be well
