Hello all,
Thought I would propose a 2v2 tournament with the possibility of prizes for those that finish in the top three (or two).
(*cough* and here is where I graciously look in the direction of the development team for some token little prizes *cough* collectors edition *cough*).
This post sets out the type of tournament I am proposing and provides a short rule set and rationale for a 2v2 tournament.
Basically, quite a few people are having issues hosting, so the first rule is that each team has at least one member that can host. The danger with a 1v 1 tournament is that both players may be unable to host. Besides this I also think 2v2 battles are much more fun.
Of course, we could go for a larger number of players but I think most will be annoyed with the excessive lag and the greater instances of out of sync errors and drops, which are more likely to occur. Also, with a small player base anything beyond 2v2 would seem a bit pointless.
As games in Sins take so long I am proposing a basic single match knock out system, with teams matched up randomly at the start and progressing, should they win, along the well known tournament horizontal ‘tree like’ ladder.
Now for some basic rules.
1) All matches at a given ladder tier (or round) are to be played on the same map. Maps to be announced latter and suggestions are most welcomed.
2) Victory conditions are, rather obviously, to eliminate the opposing team.
3) Each tier (or round) of matches are to be played within one weak of the match-ups being posted, and players are encouraged to take the initiative in arranging times to meet and play. Once you have decided on the date and time to play you must inform the tournament coordinators.
4) Results for the given match up or battle must reach the tournament coordinators within the week time limit (i.e. once the match-ups for a given tier (or round) are posted, you have one week to arrange your battle, play the battle and then report it).
5) Teams who do not make the mutually pre-arranged time to play their match will be disqualified. A 30 min grace period from the time of the pre-arranged match will be allowed. However, the opposing team may, at their discretion, waiver this rule and wait for the team that is running late or arrange to play the match at another time. Note that the match must still be played within the week time limit and failure to do so will result in the team that was unable to make the initial match-up commitment, being disqualified.
6) The use of exploits is, again rather obviously, not allowed and will result in the offending team being disqualified. All accusations must be made to the tournament coordinators immediately and some form of evidence provided.
7) Regarding rulings and arbitration of disputes the tournament coordinators word is final.
Well that’s it for the rules and on a final note, I would ask all players to try and record their games via FRAPS. This is so we can view what I hope will be some lovely battles and match-ups. And also so that the possible inclination to use an exploit will be lessened, given the video record of every thing you do in-game. Whether the use of FRAPS should form a rule I leave for you to decide.
Thanks for reading and let me know what you all think. If responses are positive and a few details ironed out, I’ll make another post for people to sign up to the tournament and exchange contact details.
