Ain't it wonderful?
(check out the Peace Corps, chikka.) |
Yes, it is. It really is. For the first time in YEARS, I'm able to concentrate on ME. That sounds horribly selfish, but I've spent the last 15 years tending to and making sure my husband got what he needed. Now that our kids are older and a little more self-sufficient, it's MY turn. I'm loving it.
I did check out the Peace Corps, and it's something that I'm going to give a lot of thought to. They even let married couples join and work together - but when I talked to D about it, he was less than enthusiastic. I had mentioned that once I was qualified, he was retired and the kids were out of the house we could both join and go experience a different manner of living. "Hmmph" he said. "What's the point of being retired if I'm going to have to go do all that?"
That one sentence sums up our differences.
I sure hope so. From where I'm standing right now, they ARE.
I think it's a wonderful dream to want to help people. |
Thank you. I think so too.
As a selfish American, I would not go to a foreign country for my own sake. However, as a selfless Christian, I would leave it all behind to help just one person anywhere.
So far, selfish American is winning. That, and my family. |
I'm not a christian, and my desire to help others isn't based on any reward I may or may not get when I'm deceased. My reward is in THIS life; in knowing that my actions, no matter how small, made a difference to someone else's day/life.
However, I can totally understand why as a Christian you'd want to help.
No need to hope you will clearly achieve your dreams. |
Thank you for your confidence!
Just be sure to take care of yourself, burnout isn't as abstract a concept as it seems. |
I'm very aware of that. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt, so to speak.
Best of luck to where ever you decide to take this |
Thank you!
Okay, I'll just have to be thought of as ripping off Dharma. (Why I think that's worse than ripping off Stephen King, I do not know.) |
You can rip me off any time, Gene.
Cool. I didn't know stethoscopes came in hot pink!
I have to update my nurse fantasy |
Well, I got my scrubs the other day, and once they've been tailored (I have to take 3" off the bottom of the pants because I'm so short) I'm going to have one of the kids take a photo of me all decked out ('scope included) so I can post it here.
That should help your nurse fantasy out a bit, huh?
Two of the best things that have ever happened for healthcare workers' morale... A variety of colors and styles of stethescopes and scrubs! ;~D |
Yeah, so why the hell we have to wear whites is beyond me. I understand the need for uniformity, but c'mon....we're dealing with ill, elderly and dying people, and it can be a messy business!!! I would have thought that navy blue or something would have been a more appropriate choice.
Yeah but inquiring minds wanna know if coordinating enema bags are available, hehe. |
No enema bags, no. Douche-bags, yes.
