If I only had the gift to survive such things.
What an awesome life that would be.

if only i could live 10,000 years and see, really see, the rise and fall of nations and epochs. popular wisdom dispises living too long, but i think i'd do okay as an importal (give or take).

If only i could be able to comprehend the immense size of the universe-
the billions of trillions of stars within trillions of galaxies, the infinitely immense distances between them, and the 15 or so billion years that have transpired since the creation of everything.

Think about it...there could be a supernova that is going on right now five billion light years away, but we won't ever see it within our lifetime, or even within the lifetime of our solar system.

Or the stars that we see at night, how long have those particular wavelengths of light traveled through the blackness to reach our eyes? Hundreds, thousands, millions of years?

There are so many mysteries left in space--we'll never begin to understand them all.

(Oh, and if i was immortal, I'd go into the heart of a black hole.)

i'm not entirely up on my X-Men comics, so with this i'm referring to the Fox kid's cartoon...

remember when the Phoenix went into the sun to hide the whatever crystal? now that would be amazing, to see and experience a star from the inside out... if only.

got to admit though, the black hole one has me gripped.
to see the universe screaming ahead faster and faster till the end of time would be the best ride imaginable.

Actually standing in the eye - or heart, as you put it - is pretty easy.

Well if Methusela can live 1000 years then i would be happy with that! Although I wouldn't wan't to be a decrepid old man for 900 years, forget that.

Not necessarily, daniel, but you do have a good point. A person may be immortal (so inherently you can't die), but that person is also subject to the law of gravity. Unfortunately, once you go in, you can't get back out (unless you can phase yourself into pure energy, which in itself is pretty sweet).

I obviously didn't think this through very well when I made that above post. Good idea, poor execution.

according to the latest theory black holes are recording devices. everything that goes in is destroyed and it is also recorded. when the black hole gets full it becomes a new universe through a big bang. all of that info is used to make the new universe

i was just thinking...

sure, i probably won't ever live to see the inside of a hurricaine and tell about it. but i have seen some pretty damn cool natural phenomena. red tide, the green flash, the aurora borealis... even just a good lightning storm.

i'd really like to see ball lightning some day.

The problem with spectating ball lightning is you usually have to be waaay too close to really see it and recognize it for what it is. And YOU could be the positive pole.

My mom had a (small) ball jump across the kitchen about 4 feet from her once when the house was struck. We replaced the stove that grounded it.

but if you go by the old theory


from the point of view of the people outside of the black hole you would die.

but from your point of view since time almost stops you will never die

i think the part of Hawkings' theories you're thinking of is speculation, not theory, and actually refers to white holes, not black holes. see: WWW Link
