Recently the Governor of Kansas said that the response of her guard forces was impaired to deal with the recent tornadoes and had to obtain personnel and equipment from other states.

Her statements were made before she ever made a request for anything more han FM radios.

I'll link the whole article. It's from MSNBC not FOX. They were only equipped to 60% at the start of the war so all of the 40% numbers sound a bit more silly when the drop wasn't 60% it was 20%. Gov. You are right what employer would hire a potentially active Guard member. The real probability is most of them aren't looking for jobs and if they are employers can't discriminate against them.

The Gov. in Kansas made those statements. She said it but that doesn't make it true. They people on the ground say different for sure and not some politically motivated mouth piece in Washington. The numbers aren't as dramatic as the sound when you shout the Guard is only at 40%.

This is the problem with you argument:

Bush was the one that insisted on invading Iraq. We were not attacked. Congress did not declare War. Bush Lied about the danger to this country from Saddam and got Congress to pass a resolution that said, "AS A LAST RESORT" Bush could invade Iraq. Not only was our invasion NOT the LAST RESORT but the danger from Saddam was not real. Even if Saddam had ALL the non-nuclear weapons Bush claimed, that does NOT justify an invasion. He had no ability to use such weapons outside Iraq and he ONLY used Gas in the past within Iraq. In fact the CIA advised Bush that he would only use WMD as a defensive measure if attacked by an outside power or against an internal opponent to remain in power.

The choice to invade Iraq with less then 1/3 the troop levels needed was Bush. The generals including Franks said the 150,000 Bush sent was not enough and the facts on the ground have proven Bush was WRONG and the Generals were correct.

Bush allowed the disbanding of the Iraqi Army, Police. Amb. Brenner said that was the decision of the White House. Thus Bush made the MAJOR decisions that has created the mess in Iraq and placed our troops in the middle of a Civil War and allowed foreign terrorists to set up operations in western Iraq! I know Bush does not make every single decision but he made the BASIC choices that have placed our Military in a NO WIN situation and are responsible for 3,500 dead Americans and 25,000 injured!

The Guard was not at 100% equipment that is correct. However, now the levels are such that every State Commander, most Governors and the Head of the National Guard say they CAN NOT handle major disasters. The equipment has also been destroyed from the punishing use in Iraq and even when that equipment is returned it will be useless. Bush has not included money in his Budgets to replace this equipment! Thus the statements I quoted in this Blog are CORRECT. I said I did not think Guard members was a protected class. I was incorrect. Again the truth of what I posted is that employers are being harmed by the prolonged and multiple deployments. The reason we have had to call on the Guard is because we do not have a large enough Active force for the deployments. Bush in 2000 said the Army and Marines were TOO SMALL. Did he request an increase in the size of the Army and Marines over the past six years? HELL NO! If Bush had not lied about the danger from Saddam our military would not be in Iraq, we would not have suffered the deaths and Injuries. We would not have spent over 1/2 Trillion dollars and we would not have added to the terrorists that are willing to attacks us again. We also might have finished the job in Afghanistan where 9/11 was planned.

It's not 'I was wrong' but I'll take it. I agree it does hurt the employers. Since we can't change the past (unless you have some magic button), what should we do to fix Iraq and the National Guard.

Do we send more troops that we don't have?
Do we start up the draft?

The Army has announced that West Point Officers are leaving the Army at TWICE the rate as before the Iraq War. West Point Graduates must serve 5 years active duty after graduation. Thus most of the departing Officers are Captains. The Army has been interviewing these departing Officers and they say multiple deployments and the Iraq War are the reasons given why most are choosing to leave the Army.

The Superintendent of West Point said this is a serious issue because it will deny the next generation of military leaders - The Colonels and Generals our country will need to lead the Army. Loss of our future military leaders is yet another consequence of the Bush Iraq War. The damage the Commander-in-Chief is doing to our ground forces is a serious and is a long term problem for our country! Anyone who believes his leadership is anything but a disaster has no understanding of our military! Today Draft Dogger Dick was sent to give the commencement address at West Point. I wonder what mental midget choose to send that IDIOT to address our future Military Leaders?
