I have no idea. But there would be MORE researchers doing research if federal Research money were available.
This is my point, You have no idea but you say it could be faster. This is the same argument given with AIDS research. None of the advances in AIDS research came from government grants. All private sector money made the greatest advances. The grant money did little but line the pockets of the researchers. The cure for aids was the driving force because the money made from the people that suffer from aids would make back the research dollars spent.
If stem cells from embryos held so much promise they would be on it in a minute. They are doing it with adult stem cells and making break through after break through and happy with what they are doing.
That is what the vast majority of Congress wants and the majority of Americans.
If tha were true then they would easily put together a veto proof bill that the President could not stop. I think you exagerate too much.
The Bush position that this would destroy human life in NOT valid if the only Stem Cells that would be allowed in federally Funded Research were the left over in-vitro cells that will be destroyed as medical waste.
The little part you leave out is that they have to progress the life process before you can get the cells. It is one step below cloning. To get the stem cells you have to fertilize the eggs allow it to grow to a certain point then kill the embryo to harvest the cells. So you mislead us a bit when you say it will be destroyed anyway. Yes, it will be destroyed but only after the life process has begun. An abortion something the President is against.
I am not part of the abortion argument, I am against abortion because I see the damage it does to the women that have had them. I have also paid for my daughters abortion which is why I am against abortion.
