It seems (according to D.C. local news reports) that Jim Webb, erstwhile U.S. Senator representing Virginia, is telling stories that don't quite sync with those of his aide that was arrested carrying *his* (Webb's) gun, along with extra ammo. Arrested because said aide tried to enter the U.S. Senate office building and apparently "forgot" that the concealed weapon was there.
At a minimum, Webb has some 'splainin' to do because he couldn't account for the weapon over a period of a few days time, and apparently the aide also couldn't keep track of the weapon enough to keep from getting arrested with it in his possession when he tried to enter the U.S. Senate office building.
Webb needs to go back to remedial gun safety training and learn how better to keep track of his weapons. He was able to claim that he needs the weapon for personal and family safety purposes (which makes no sense as there have been no announced threats on him or his family that I'm aware of), but regardless, losing track of a weapon is a sure sign that the individual that lost track of said weapon doesn't need to have one in the first place. He is obviously not a person capable of the personal responsibility that comes along with having a firearm.
His aide should be in the jail just for being stupid enough not to keep track of the weapon that was given to him by his boss. Reportedly given to him at the airport, but again, that's one story, apparently it doesn't quite match with anything else that was said by the other party involved. Either way, knowing that firearms are illegal in D.C., despite a recent court order that might change that and give District of Columbia residents back their second ammendment rights (which is pretty funny since the District keeps lobbying for statehood status claiming that many of their citizens' rights have been robbed due to lack of statehood and/or congressional representatives. Irony for sure. The District long ago took away the second ammendment rights of the citizens there), the aide should have had sense enough to take the weapon back to Webb's home or some other suitable location where it could have been safely locked away.
Fact of the matter is that the weapon was *loaded* when the aide tried to enter the office building, at least according to current reports. If true, then we have a U.S. Senator that seems to believe firmly in vigilante justice, or at least firmly believes in the individual right to bear arms for personal protection (but whom is a member of a party that has repeatedly tried to restrict gun owner's rights). Same Senator apparently had been going around with a loaded weapon. Hmm, makes you feel very safe knowing he has been packing heat everywhere he goes.
It is possible that the aide loaded the weapon, but why? Hmm, don't think so since the Senator basically admitted (via news conference Q&A) that he was carrying it for protection. Again though, loaded weapon being carried around without much concern for tracking it's location? Bad move.
Webb has a lot more 'splainin' to do here, but of course the main stream media probably won't call him to task on it. After all, his name isn't George Allen, and he is a Democrat not a Republican.
