What do Joeusers think about these topics?

Let's wake JU up a bit.

I do not know whether JU friends agree or not but I think we're going through a (temporary), lull at the moment. JU can be very active and inspiring, but like everything, we hit our lows from time to time. As a a loyal Joeuser I thought I'd sow a few topics out there and we can debate them adnauseam (ha ha). Lets see if you can agree or get angry over these topics for discussion:

1. General Peter Pace is narrow-minded and out of touch about gay men.
2. Senator John McCain will be 72 in 2008. Is he too old to run for President? He's not exactly a Reagan, is he?
3. Will Rudi Guilliani's past philandering upset his hopes for the Presidency?
4. Do Iraquis still welcome British and American troops as they did in 2003?
5. Is George Bush as capable or as effective as President as his father was?

Different strokes for different folks but it would be nice to hear your views.

1. - Who cares. Many religions believe so, as long as they do not discriminate,they are entitled to their opinions.
2. - Age is relative now that many people live well over 80.
3. - Did CLinton's?
4. - Relative. Some sure do. Some do not. And some moreso than in 2003.
5. - Better. GHWB was not as strong an individual as GWB. Agree or disagree with him, a president has to be decisive.

2. He's too old. He's looking a little feeble. But the real reason he can't get elected for his life is that he still supports a war that two-thirds of the country hates and wants to end ASAP.
3. Yes. He can't win the presidency, either.
4. I doubt it. Now we're probably seen as the "invading force" that people think we are.
5. Neither was very capable or effective. At least Herbert Walker got out of his war.

Which makes perfect sense....since he's not a gay man. hahahahaha

Everyone knows there are homosexuals in the service. Who cares? As long as they keep their sexual preferences private....um, just like everyone else is expected to do.

I think they should be given the chance to prove themselves just like the blacks had. Put them all into a single regiment (staffed by straight officers if you feel gays can't do discipline themselves) and let them show the Army if they're as good as the others.

That would also get rid of the leadership's fear that homosexuality is catching and that contact with gays will make them gay.

1. What is so sacred about homosexuality that no one is allowed to have an opinion that differs from the homosexual agenda?
2. Not too old to run, but he does come with too much political baggage to win.
3. This one will be interesting to watch. On one hand we have conservatives who said that Clinton's womanizing ways should have kept him from office, on the other hand we have liberals who insist that a candidate's personal life doesn't matter. Will liberals and conservatives continue to point fingers as both sides forget their ideals?
4. Iraqis are people, and people come with differing opinions. Many are glad our troops are there, others hate it and yet others don't care one way or another.
5. In some cases yes, in other cases no. They are two different presidents, each with their weaknesses and strengths. If you ask me, if Bush Sr. was a better leader we would have finished the job back in the 90s and wouldn't be wondering about question #4 today. ;~D

Actually, I dont think that is an issue, or ever has been. Perhaps you should read some of the Colonials responses to see that is not the problem.

He's right about the immoral part, but probably wrong about any conclusions drawn from it. People's immorality is between them and God. Besides, I bet if we poked around enough we could make a good case for Pace being immoral at something in his life. (And me too, for that matter.)

2. Senator John McCain will be 72 in 2008. Is he too old to run for President? He's not exactly a Reagan, is he?


While our youth obsessed culture has been trending toward younger presidents, the age issue is irrelevant in this instance. McCain will never be president.

3. Will Rudi Guilliani's past philandering upset his hopes for the Presidency?


No, but this is a really bad election to be a Republican. A bigger problem for him is that a hard look at his record will show he wasn't actually responsible for much of what he's praised for. Also, like Bush, he runs on 9/11. America in general will be looking for something decidedly non Bush.

4. Do Iraquis still welcome British and American troops as they did in 2003?


I don't think we were ever overly welcome anyway. Some factions wanted us there then, some want us there now. I doubt we ever had "the hearts and the minds of the people" though. I'll mark it as more or less a draw, with maybe a slight tilt toward more "yankee go home."

5. Is George Bush as capable or as effective as President as his father was?


I always felt Bush pere was the worst president of my lifetime. Bush fils has officially usurped that title. Make of that what you will.

The man stated his personal opinion and naturally the PC police are all over him about it. This is a free country and the man has every right to voice his opinion just as the gay rights people do. If I were him there is no way in hell I would apologize for voicing my opinion.

2. Senator John McCain will be 72 in 2008. Is he too old to run for President? He's not exactly a Reagan, is he?


I don't believe there is an upper age limit written in the Constitution.

3. Will Rudi Guilliani's past philandering upset his hopes for the Presidency?


Probably not, but it won't help him any.

4. Do Iraquis still welcome British and American troops as they did in 2003?


I think you'd have to ask them that question. As many are providing information about caches of weapons and terrorist locations, I'd say they are trying to stabilize the situation in their country so they can live a normal life.

5. Is George Bush as capable or as effective as President as his father was?


Way too subjective a question. We are living in a totally different situation than when his father was Prez. I believe that he is sticking to his principles under difficult times, and I respect that.
