The attacks of the Taliban in Afghanistan. That war goes south every day. You also have al Qaeda operating training camps in Pakistan on the border with Afghanistan. We NEVER finished the job in that country and took the forces needed to deal with Afghanistan and the elements that caused 9/11 to Iraq that was no danger and no part of 9/11.

No dummy they allowed al Qaeda to train and plan the 9/11 attacks. Are you DUMB or just so blind you refuse to look at the truth! We never had the number of troops in Afghanistan to end the al Qaeda and Theban operations. We need to remove our combat forces from Iraq and send then to Afghanistan and complete that war where 9/11 was planned!

Then WHY did Bush attack Iraq where there was no al Qaeda activity or training camps before we invaded? Today there are some al Qaeda in Iraq because we deposed Saddam and did not have the manpower required to prevent them from coming across the Iraq borders and setting up operations.

We had plenty of reasons, most of which democrats agreed with.  According to your standards Afghanistan was not a threat either, and we shouldn't have disposed of the Taliban.

Nope, the leader of that country has helped us as best he could and has allowed us to use our troops in his country to hunt them down. For a col in the Army you sure don't keep up on current affairs.



The fact remains that he had AQ training camps in his country and according to US policy that was more than enough to invade his country. Just because you fixated on nukes does not mean that the reasons to go to war were invalid.

This article is about Afghanistan not Iraq but you lost that argument so you change topics in order to sound like you might win. And since you don’t do much research allow me to inform you that the British are sending in troops to Afghanistan as well as other countries. So in Iraq it is getting quiet enough to send some troops home from the south of the country and in Afghanistan even the brits are coming to help. Wow are you dumb.

You know, Gene, it takes a huge leap of faith (as in off a very tall cliff) to assume that AQ would have just stopped recruiting & returned to the cricket pitch absent the war in Afghanistan & Iraq. This is why your arguments are so lame - no perspective, no big picture, no accounting for what would likely have happened had we stayed out of Afghanistan & Iraq. There was never a risk-free option. I deal with this every day - making decisions based on my assessment of the relative risks of two possible courses of action: doing something or not. Both choices entail risk; there is never a third option that avoids risk. To rail on as you do, as if we'd all be just comfy & cozy now and all the AQ zealots in the world would be devoting themselves to feeding the starving in Africa or something is beyond absurd. The objective of going into Afghanistan was to stop al Qaeda from operating and preparing future attacks like 9/11. We have not accomplished that objective and our military leaders in Afghanistan say to accomplish the mission they will need more troops. We have sought more troops from NATO with little success. We need to get out of the Civil War in Iraq and send the needed forces to complete the mission in Afghanistan!

Our mission in Iraq should be to eliminate al Qaeda in Iraq, secure the borders of Iraq, train Iraqi military and police, provide logistical support to the Iraqi Army and prevent the Civil War in Iraq from going into other countries. We should NOT continue fighting in the civil war between the various factions in Iraq. That fight is up to the Iraqi Army and police! It is up to the government to make the political accommodations that will end the cause of the sectarian fighting.

According to Bush they have made several attempts to attack the U.S. since 9/11. We have improved our defense but the fact remains that al Qaeda is still planning and attempting those attacks. We have not destroyed their ability to plan attacks. We have improved our ability to thwart them. The problem is that we must be successful EVERY time. All they need to do is be successful one time to give us another 9/11.
