Ahh, my first day off. I woke up around 7am (to my 4 year old, who always beats the alarm by at least 10 minutes) and stretched, joyful that I did not have to trudge through 8 hours with the end of the day my only hope. I fixed waffles for the boys and grabbed a diet soda for myself. Now, now..I know I shouldn't be eating so healthy in the early morning, but I just can't help it.
So, I brought my oldest son to Kindergarten and my baby and I came back home to do some chores and watch a little television. (I'll fast forward to the good part now so as to not bore everyone...)
Fast forward 8 hours.....
I'm on my way to the mall with my kiddos, because I need one of those wonderful wood-appearing coat racks. For some reason, if any member of my family throws a coat down, it turns into 5 coats within 20 minutes. I've never figured it out..kind of like socks..Anyway, I stopped at a little gas station/convenience store on the way to the mall. The kids and I pile out of the car like circus clowns and head inside. It's another diet drink for me and a beef stick. I know, too healthy..
As I'm checking out, I look down through the display counter and see some Texas Lottery tickets, the scratch-off kind. Hmm...how much money do I want to trash on these things today?? I normally save the trashing of money for the special occasions of buying gas, but hey...I'm a wild woman. I'll buy two of the $2 scratch offs to go along with my nitrites and artificial sweetner.
I'm back in my car, and I scratch off the first ticket. Nothing. Now the second ticket...wait just a minute! A "doubler" symbol with the dollar amount of $50 beneath it. I won $100 bucks!!! YES!!! So, the boys and I pile out of the car again (to their dismay) and I go back into the store and wave my ticket to the clerk as if it's a first prize ribbon. As I'm waiting patiently to get my $100 dollars, I hear the clerk say, "Wow you really won!" Yes sir, I did. I stick out my paw as he counts out the money: "Here's 20, 40, 60, 80, 100. 120, 140, 160, and 200 dollars." OH MY GOODNESS!!! I said, foolishly, "I think this is wrong..." The clerk then handed me my ticket and I looked at it again. I had gotten so excited about the $50 doubler, I hadn't scratched the rest of the ticket. I had matched two other symbols and they were each worth $50 apiece. The clerk then said, "How many more tickets do you want?" Well, I may have been born at night, but it wasn't last night. I took the money and ran.
So, my children enjoyed a stop by the game room at the mall and we all enjoyed a night out to supper when my husband got home. Thank you, Texas Lottery.
I think this just proves one thing: I need days off more often. Now I just need to convince my employer to think the same way. =D
