Uh, I thought that the Democrats were out there trying to convince everyone that it was President Bush and the Republicans fault that the draft was gonna make a comeback...
Apparently, since that plan never flew, Charlie Rangel, incoming head of the House Ways and Means committee believes that the "means" part is all about being mean to as many people as he can. Or, perhaps he believes -- as he stated on Face the Nation this past weekend (11/19/2006) -- (paraphrasing) that military service continues to be an unfair burden on the poor and downtrodden in this country in disproportionate numbers when compared to "the rich."
Rangel is back with a plan though, as he again is trying to bring up a bill to reinstate the draft so that *all* able bodied citizens of the appropriate ages would be forced into service. Funny that a Black congressman would be reintroducing a bill that basically enslaves the youth of the country even as we continue to have one of the best militaries in the world with an all volunteer force.
While our military may be stretched thin, there are other ways of resolving the issue of adding troops if necessary but those ways would seem to involve tossing money at the problem (something that Democrats normally believe fairly strongly in). Of course those ways aren't good enough because if we just pay huge bonuses to people so that they enlist and serve then the only people we'll get (at least as Democrats believe) will be undereducated or poor persons that have no where else to turn.
Rangel, Kerry, the whole club. They all believe the same lies and myths about our military and they all try to perpetuate and benefit from the same.
