Today my wife received a letter from the Harry Chapin Food Bank of SW Florida which she supports. Let me quote from the first paragraph of this letter dated 3 November 2006:
“Requests for our services continue to increase – the cause for alarm is real. With 50,000 plus people asking the food bank for emergency food each month, one has to wonder why. According to the U.S. Census and U.S. Department of Agriculture, since 2000, the number of Americans living below the poverty line has steadily grown. Now 13 % - 37 million Americans – are officially poor. This is not good news since we are seeing these very effects in Southwest Florida.”
I think Bush should send each and every one of these 37 Million Americans a letter with the good news about the stock market being up. Corporate profits being up, the increase in lower paying jobs and the increase in the GDP. I am sure that will make them understand they are doing well under the economic policies in our country!
