Any way to use Windows XP for Windows 98 games?

I have been playing Gal Civ 2 a lot lately...and honestly, it's getting stupid. I miss Malkari. But Malkari was created way back in the dark ages...something like 1999. It won't run on this computer. The autorun.exe file required to install it no longer exists. So my question is, is there a way to make that game work that I've overlooked?

Have you tried Compatibility Mode?

Right-click on the shortcut, choose Properties, then select the Compatibility tab.

Goto Microsoft and search their downloads for Application Compatibility Toolkit. It has gotten games all the way back to '94 to work on XP for me. Hope This Helps:)

A suggestion for anyone else wanting to run older games ( although it wont apply here because he lost the autorun.exe/setup.exe ). Create a shortcut to the SETUP.EXE and set it to run in compatability mode for whatever ( 95, 98, blah blah ). Run that, then run the actual program in compatability mode. I realize this doesn't help you, but I find it very useful in running old games. And it's very easy.

Some of the older programs and games keep all the files in a single folder, and don't use the registry.
These programs, if you have a backup of the game folder, can be copied to the new computer and run normally. Just drag out a shortcut icon to the desktop and set the compatibility mode.

ok, thanks for the tips. A storm took my power out (I'm on a friend's computer) so I won't be able to try it until tomorrow.

I got this problem too... can't play Red Alert or Battle Engine Aquila... that's a shame... I want to play old games!
