I Met A Nigger Today

When I arrived at my delivery point this morning there was a guy there and naturally I thought he was the one waiting to unload me. I spoke with him and he showed me where to back the truck so the crane could access the load. No problem. Once I got into position I got out to remove the chains and supervise the unloading.

The guy said to me "The nigger will be here in a few minutes to unload you, you aren't in a big hurry are you?". Needless to say I wasn't too impressed with this guy. After about 10 minutes this black guy pulls up, gets out of his car, and starts walking over. The guy I had been talking with shouted over "Hey nigger, you need to lift off this generator right away!". At this point I'm a tad flabbergasted and waiting to see a fight.

The black guy yells back "Gimme a minute, I needs to piss." I'm wondering what the hell I've gotten into at this point. I guess the look on my face when the black guy approached revealed my thoughts because he asked me "You alright this morning? Something wrong?"

Well, I'm not one to be bashfull so I asked him flat out why the other guy called him "Nigger". He said that's his name. What?! That's your name? "Well, not really, it's my nickname, everybody calls me Nigger." I just kind of looked at him. Here's a guy, about 30ish, who goes by the handle "Nigger". I'm stumped.

"Look man," he says, "it's no big deal. I'm a nigger so peoples calls me Nigger."

"That doesn't piss you off?" I asked. "Most black dudes would get pretty radical about that shit."

He laughed "Most of those guys really are niggers and are always looking for a fight. The way I see it, if it's my name how can it hurt me if somebody calls me that?" He had a big grin on his face and I suddenly got it. It made sense to me as strange as it sounds.

Crafty s.o.b.

After he lifted off the generator and signed the paperwork I climbed back into my truck with a "Thanks Nigger." His reply? "Have a nice day white boy" with a big grin on his face.

I may never see the guy again, but I like him. His sense of humor is every bit as twisted as my own.

I don't know if I'd call him that to be honest...haha. Today its his name, but tomorrow he might take offense. heh.

nah, I understand his sense of humor. I used to work with a driver that used the CB handle "Black Bastard". He was funny as hell. Once a bunch of us went into a truckstop and got a table. When the waitress came up he asked her "Do you serve niggers here?" The look on her face was priceless and we all busted out laughing.

Understandable. I'm just not exactly PC by nature (I am the definition of anti-PC ). Besides, I love a good joke.

Yeah, most blacks use it in a way that I guess they are trying to defuse the power of the word but fail miserably. I like his way of handling it. It worked on me as I was uncomfortable in the situation until I met the guy and chatted with him for a minute. Then I understood and found it very funny.

Maybe it's one of those "you just had to be there" kind of things.

Yeah, that's just it. The guy goes by this name. Everyone thinks of all of these horrible scenarios while he chuckles to himself the whole time.

I was a bit shock by the title, especially since I didn't realise you could use the word 'nigger' in a title.

I guess if he wants to be called that then it's his choice. Perhaps he had no choice in the matter. The way he's dealt with it to difuse it and give it no meaning is understandable.

I understood the way you felt M, seeing as how it's not a normal everyday thing.


I've done that before, you know the saying, 'sticks and stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me'. Sometimes that's true.

Plus like I always say, lifes too short to get all bent out of shape over some things!

You know Mason for a "white boy" you have a good sense of humor.

Your article reminds me of a joke.

Two guys walk into a bar.
The first guy says to the bartender, "Can I get 2 beers for me and jackass?
The bartender gets the 2 beers but is puzzled on why he is calling the other guy a name.
All night long they drink, and everytime the first guy is ordering the same way.
"2 more beers for me and jackass"
"A couple more beers for me and jackass"
The bartender is getting more and more curious on why he is calling the other guy a "jackass".

Though I don't think I would actually be able to call him this myself, I do think good for him for rising above it, and as you said not giving power to words that are insignificant. I like his sense of humour, and yours
