He is definitely a cutie. So is the beard gonna make a come back too?

I had not heard of the ammonia bit. If that doesn't work another idea to keep him from getting around the pedals is to lightly sprinkle ground chili powder (chili pequin works well) in the carpet. that way he learns he can hang out on the passenger side. I think a cat would be a great traveling companion. Especially since they sleep alot. Best wishes

Actually this is the funny part, I'm allergic too. I have read that exposure therapy works so what the hell, I'll try it.

My Wife is allergic to a lot of things, and Cats are one of them.  However, the Allergist says it is actually the mites on the cats that she is allergic to, not the cat itself.

Great addition to your truck!

I'm thinking about the harness thing. Do they make them small enough for a little kitten? I figure the earlier I put one on the easier it will be to him to get used to it.

Yes.  My wife just got one for our cat, and she is about the same size.  She loves it as that is the only way she gets to go outside with her older siblings.  Try Petsmart.

Thanks, I hope so too. Today was his first day in the truck and needless to say it was pretty stressful for him.

Thanks, I'll check into one soon. I want to get him used to being in the truck before adding the harness training, but I'll keep Petsmart in mind.

You'll want to get a crate or a cage for him too, I suppose, so you dont have to worry about him escaping when you're getting in and out of the truck, it would be awful if he got scared and bolted on ya....

If he starts distracting you in a dangerous way while you're driving (who knows, he might not, but its good to have a plan you can always pick up a large collapsible wire cage rather than a small carrier (for temporary confinement) and leave that set up in the berth while you're actually in motion, collapsing it flat when you stop for the night or for layovers so he can run around and get some exercise then....lol, he might not let ya sleep though!

I hope all works out, he's such a cutie pie, but I've always felt dogs were better travelers simply because they're easier to train. I have had friends that traveled with cats though, and it seems the most important thing is getting him used to a halter, so he can be given outside exercise without worrying about him getting away, and can also be used to keep him out of your way until he's trained or until you get a cage setup you both can live with.

Youve got 2 main things to keep in mind...safety on the road and your cat's well being. I'll be following your adventures with great interest, and wishing you both a long and satisfying friendship!


Thanks, I've already been thinking about one of the foldup carriers or cages. There will be times when I have to put the truck in the shop and won't be able to take him out with me, so that would be an option for those times.

Exposure therapy definitely works. I'm allergic to cats but I've had my girl now for nearly 12 years. I still get the occasional sneezes but this is about it.

Socrates is a great name too. I think he will be a great road companion. Good luck with it all.
