The news is breaking everywhere, including a few different threads and articles here at JU, that terrorist/militant leader, reputed al-Qaeda/al-Qaida leader in Iraq, was killed in an air raid north of Baghdad. I don't want to trumpet that news (actually I do, but I'll try not to) and celebrate it, but I do want to say that I hope that the end result is that we achieve peace sooner, rather than later, now that Al-Zarqawi is gone.
Whether or not the vacuum of leadership is filled with some other hate-filled and hate-inspiring individual remains to be seen, but eliminating Al-Zarqawi -- especially in the style that happened here -- should help send a message that there's a horrible price to be paid for using the tactics that Al-Zarqawi had been using.
