Multiplicity 1.05 is out!!!

One more release until Mac OS X!!

1.05 release
------------
-Updates to clipboard handler to account for secondaries
potentially being off and causing lag while pasting.
-Updates to connection code to account for secondaries
potentially being off when reconnecting.
-Tested against Windows Vista pre-release 5381 (x86 and x64).
Should remain happy on the upcoming Beta 2 build.
-Updated activate.exe to allow translation (activate.lng) and
added up-front checking for potentially invalid serials or
other customer issues.

-With the release of this version, the next set of
updates should include a beta of OS X support for Intel and PPC.

Hey team, thanks for this update! I've noticed that I get reconnected to my secondaries much better now and I also immediately noticed how much better Copy/Paste across machines is working!

I'm still running into issues with my laptop when it has multiple NICs (wireless and wired) and issues with my DHCP -> dynamic DNS registration being out of date so I have to manually change my ip address of my laptop secondary almost every time I connect. These aren't really Multiplicity's fault though, so nice work!

Same problem. I remoted into the primary and got mouse back.

I was also able to use a bug in the troubleshooter on the secondary to restore the mouse on the priomary. Look Ma! It's a feature now!

Carl, I'm going to drop a case to Stardock. Suggest you do the same. stardock.helpserve.com

Can you run a test for me? Enable the scroll lock switch and see if you lose your mouse that way too?

No luck wit scroll lock. It's funny, now that it doesn't work I notice how it became essential for my everyday work. I hope for a quick fix.

OS : Primary : Win XP Pro SP2, Secondary 2k3 Server SP1 and Notebook with XP Pro SP 2 all of them with 1,5 GB RAM and german of course.

Running SD apps : OD+, IconX, CursorXP, RightClick. Other apps : Ranlendar, Sysmetrix, G-Data Antivirus 2006, Active Sync 4.1.

If you have lost your mouse when you try to control a secondary (I.e. it appears to have locked as the mouse stops moving anything on either machine) then you have a problem with the installation on the secondary machine.  I would uninstall Multiplicity from the secondary, reboot, and then reinstall. 

It is important you do that extra reboot.

If you mean your mouse cursor has vanished when you return from controlling the secondary, then CursorXP does have a bug where sometimes it loses the cursor.

No Luck on my side. I reinstalled on the primary (2 reboots) and now I have no connection.

As I said, the problem is on the secondary, not the primary.  You must reinstall on the secondary.

No love. Winlogon fails. Mouse on Primary goes to la-la land when I try to move over. Invoking the troubleshooter releases mouse on primary.

Next steps: Uninstall, reboot, clean the registry, reboot, install, reboot.

It's a great app . . . but the last few builds are killing me.

I'll check the secondary processes after the NEXT install.

Neil, what version should be displayed in the advanced tab of the config? I show 1.05.007 in SDC but 1.02 in the app itself.

Need I reinstall the primary?

OK, on the secondary:
Installed. Rebooted. Configured.
Troubleshooter showed everything OK at first but on retry showed winlogon failure.
Stardock MP service is set to auto start but is stopped. On start attempt I get error that the system can't find the path.
MPVista is not running, Multipl.exe is.

On the primary. Uninstalled and reinstalled to fix versioning. All is 1.05 now. The uninstall left lots of MP entries in the reg. It sure would be nice if they were all removed at uninstall.

Gonna reboot secondary again.

The app should show 1.05.

Can you provide a directory listing of the files in the MP directory on your secondary please.

I'm done.
Everything has been reinstalled and rebooted a hundred times (it feels that way at least).
The last test had the mouse getting lost when moving to the primart to the secondary. I turned on screen darkening on teh primary and the secondary went dark. So I know a message is getting through. But then the primary goes dim too. At least the mouse comes back to life after a bit. It appears in the upper corner of the side the secondary is at.

I have to say, I'm pretty dissapointed. Looking at the features in this update, you're putting better checking to make sure people are paying for your product, support for an operating system that isn't out, nor will be for 6 months, and some cosmetic fixes. But wait, OS X support that has been promised for 2 years is coming REAL soon now, compared to soon 2 years ago. And......still no linux support. Vista will be out soon and take over much of the desktop replacement functionality, and if Synergy continues down the path they're on, at what point do I give up on Stardock for their lackadaisical attitude towards the customer and stop using their products altogether? Who knows, maybe there is nobody else that has wanted to combine PC's, Mac's, and linux, and the development has been better put towards things that make money. Then again, build it and they will come. I guess we'll find out when a company willing to focus on this area produces a quality product.

OSX support has not been promised for 2 years!  Multiplicity itself has only been out just over a year!

It seems strange that you complain about us adding Vista support (which is important as we have customers who use the betas of Vista as well as internal staff who use MP when developing on Vista), yet then say Vista will be out soon.

I am curious to know what you expected from a minor point release update.  Minor point releases are basically for fixes and minor tweaks.

Next on the development list is support for grid configurations and the OSX secondary support previously mentioned.  If there is anything else in particular you are interested in, then please let us know.

Well let's see. I purchased Multiplicity over a year ago. It was in development and beta long before that, with OS X support promised then. This forum has people asking in April of 2005 how much longer OS X support was going to take. Vista is in BETA. It is not a released product. What percentage of the population actually have their hands on it? Microsoft expects to release it in November of 2006. Considering OS X support has been "In development" since well before April of 2005, that's soon by those standards. Soon means, I expect Vista to be out before this finally happens.

Do I expect more from a minor point release? Per se, no, but I specifically purchased the produce over a year ago expecting what Stardock said was going to be "soon". What am I interested in? OS X support that has long been promised (when Vista was being called Longhorn, and had aero glass desktop displays). I'd also like Linux support. Stardock has said they have an internal linux and OS X version, and given OS X is BSD based, it can't be too difficult to have them both out.

Lets look at the forums here.
April 05, how much longer for OS X support?
June 05, we're busy moving.
June 05, in development should be in the 1.1 release. Timeline, This summer (05), we're moving, taking vacations, etc.
Sep 05, We're beta testing internally, it should show up soon.
Dec 05, (after numerous posts of when) Q1 of 06 Multiplicity 1.1 and OS X support
April 06, (after Q1) We've obtained an Intel mac and hope once Keepsafe is released we can release a beta.
May 06.......The next release is gonna do it, really. We promise this time.
Got a new timeline on that?

When you look at this history, perhaps you can understand the frustration of many. Yes, Apple's market share is 3.2%, and the people who have Macs and PC's, or Mac's and Linux and or all three is some fraction of that. But at least you could have taken the OS X in development off the Multiplicity page and let us know that it was the absolutely last thing on your list of things to do now, or anything else that might come up in the future. Heck, Keepsafe wasn't released till 4/10 and this was delayed yet again for that. We seem to be in the exact same position in April 06 as we were Jun of 05.

I'm sorry if you think I'm calling your baby ugly, but this is a business selling a commercial product, not something downloaded off of Sourceforge. If you promise something, deliver it, or someone else will and you will lose the loyalty of your customers. Then again, perhaps you've already looked at the numbers, and the market share of customers who care about this won't significantly impact your bottom line if they leave. We'll never really know. I can say that I had been prepared to purchase between 10 and 50 copies of Thinkdesk at my company (depending on demand), and specifically didn't because I felt I couldn't rely upon you. Given that we don't use Mac's, did this matter? Technically no, but if I can't trust a vendor, I'm not giving them my money. How many other people are there like me?

Well said.

I purchased Multiplicity to help development of a linux version, which I saw was in the works. As the talk of a Linux ver is without a release date, I now wonder if development has moved to other things and this may never come to pass.
