I remember feeling all of mine for the first time. With Shea, it was a little flutter in there. With Davey, we were in Tesco getting ham and fresh baked bread when all of a sudden he landed me a good kick just below my belly button. Jake was a kicker too.
I used to pull up my shirt and let people watch Shea moving all around. She used to be most active right after I ate and then again when I was in the pool or tub. She'd roll and kick and stick her little elbows and knees out and make my belly look like something out of a Salvador Dali painting!
When I was about 38 weeks pregnant with Davey, Dave and I were sitting in the living room, playing cards before we went to bed. I had my shirt off and had pulled my pants down so my belly was exposed. Davey was putting on quite a show for his dad, making my belly ripple all over - and then he stuck out an elbow and rolled all the way over onto the opposite side. The look on Dave's face was priceless....I thought he was going to faint or something!
When I was pregnant with Jake he was just as impressed with Jake's acrobatics. Jake used to put his feet under my ribs and push his head down on my bladder - yeah, that was comfortable!
I think that women bond with their children from the moment they know they're pregnant, but I think that feeling your child move around for the first time really cements that bond. I know it did for me with all of mine.
I'm soooooo broody right now. 2 of my favorite people are pregnant, I'm knitting baby blankets and layette sets and I'm so wishing I could have another one. I saw a woman with a newborn in the commissary the other day and I wanted so badly to pick it up and let is nestle it's little head into my shoulder....the way they smell, the little grunts and noises that they make, the way they root and turn their head when they're hungry....it's all so fabulous. A miracle of human engineering in a 8lb package!
Ok, I need to find someone who has a newborn so I can babysit for them and get my baby craving out of the way!
