I like it this way. Esp if you have a part that's hard to find to get rid of it. (perhaps the gui should just be changed)
Just slap on the new parts big freaking deal. Perhaps there could be option to update this each given part type, but come on....

Maybe there could be a button that one could click after you get into the upgrade screen that would clear all non-jewelry.

i agree with seajay, we need to talk frogboy into adding a button that toggles the jewelry. you can add everything you want and then when you want to get to the real parts you click a box and it clears all the jewelry out of the bottom thing its in, leaving only the hull and anything already there, then when you wan to add more jewelry you click the box again and it comes back. i think a setup like that would help everybody a lot, especially the people who have created the hugely complex ships, it would take forever to scroll through all the parts to even get the the weapons. and if you had that box, the upgrade wouldnt need to remove it because youd see whatever you put on right there and it would be easy to find. and joshua alexander is correct the only 1.1 version that is out is the beta. and it doesnt having everything they've changed in it.

I agree with the first post. Having all functional parts erased when you click "upgrade" is incredibly annoying, and I haven't even gotten beyond "medium" ships. Also, why can't you "upgrade" core designs? Especially for a beginner, it would be interesting to see what components are in the default ships. And for the experienced, this way gets rid of the mindless clicking.

I would simply expect it to take the existing ship design, and put it into "edit" mode. If a ship has already been built from that design, you would have to save it as a new design, otherwise you could also edit the existing one. (Some game did it like this, they called the not-yet-used designs "blueprints", IIRC. Was it SE4?) "Hide decoration" or "auto-upgrade" buttons as suggested would be a nice feature, but at least for me, not urgent.

An idea for the "functional parts get lost in bling" problem: Simply auto-sort the component row (below the ship view), so that functions are always before the decoration parts. In other words, keep two separate lists, the first for functions, the second for decorations, and then display the full first list, then the full second list. Problem solved

Oh, while we are at it: When decorating my ships, I would like a "hide mount points" button, so I could take a look at what the final ship would really look like. On the other hand, if I could simply save the ship and edit it later (as above), this would not be necessary...

They cannot have an option for everything. Seruiously, you are just going to have to learn to deal with this. As a game developer, they are damned if they do, and damned if they don't, please don't make their lives difficult by relatively trivial complaints. All this means is you have to spend an extra few minutes with this game to design your upgrades.

It seems that people swing both ways on this subject. I like the current feature.

I think it would be nice to have the option to turn this off.
Also I would really like to be able to upgrade the core types as some of them look good but I never use them as I prefer to put whatever components I like on. However I think there is special rules for the core ships, the colony ships have two colony modules, but only one functional one.

Look, all the designers have to do is find the old ship design program and put it back into the game. It wouldn't be to hard to toggle in between the new and the old.

Why do so many people here think that the developers have to meet each and every single criteria that they demand. There is a limit you know? It's not like they can just meet every requirement that each and every customer comes up with.

This is the ONLY thing I dont like about the game. THIS is the ONLY thing I request. Other than that the rest , in my opinion, is gold. Its not like I am asking for them to recreate the entire game to look like starwars. So dont get all huffy puffy acting like I'm asking for a complete makeover of the game because I'm not. Like I said I only want it optional it in a future patch because I respect the other people's opinion about liking it and I wouldn't want to ruin it for the people who do like it.

Maybe youre correct Spearthrower, but they changed and no where on the forums did anyone request that this be done.

I agree with the topic creator. Many people complain that its hard to get certain parts off their ships and replace them... well use the bar at the bottom! What? The bar doesn't work? Then stardock should fix the bar, not change the entire layout of the upgrade function!

If you want to remove all jewelry, etc... make a new ship design! Its basically the same thing, and start from scratch and build your ship over again (delete the previous entry or add a Mk2 designation after it or something).

If you want to upgrade your ship, it only makes sense to leave all the extra crap hanging off it...

Crazy idea: How about you simply drag the components from the selection list to the bar, and drop it. It'll wipe out the original component and replace it on the ship model (size on the slider bar and everything). That way you don't even have to go through the trouble of deleting the offending item in the first place!

It hasn't been fixed in the beta

It has in 1.1 beta 2. There is an toggle box in options/interface for this now. It's also easier to remove components from ships.

It looks like they might change the ship designer. If they change it where it doesn't remove all of the weapons I'll shut up forever. (Unless a HUGE bug comes up )
