Will it run on my computer? A question from a computer ignoramus

Ok, let me say upfront that i know nothing about computer hardware and software etc;. i have a laptop which is a about two and a half years old. I'm quite fine not playing game son it but I really enjoyed Gal Civ 1 and given the modest specs on Glav Civ 2 i thought i would check to see if this hunk of junk could manage Gal Civ 2. The laptop is still pretty good the problem is with the video card.

Brad's FAQ doesn't really help me since i have no idea what is equivalent to the mentioned video cards.

The card is a Intel (R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV

Yes I know it is crappy but any advice would be appreciated.

I'd say it'll probably run, but not well. GC2 scales pretty well at the low-end, graphically. You can play the game with 2D icons if you want.

All you really need is a DX9 video card. Unfortuneatly I'm not sure if your's is DX9 compatible (search on google maybe?) But if it is, you should be able to play. Since GC2 is turn based, and very flexible graphically, you should be able to run it decently. Heck, GC1 runs fine on a 2D 1994 matrox card, provided your video card is DX9 compatable GC2 should work fine. Or atleast thats what I've heard. I'm still trying to resurect my friends dead 6600GT.

Thanks for the advice. I appreicate it.
I just reinstalled DirectX 9.0c End-User Runtime and there were no warnings or apparent failures.
I'm not too fussed about graphics i just really enjoy the AI.
You've given me the confidence to take a punt.
But if anyone else has some contrary advice please don't be shy!

Go to Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> System Information

Under 'OS Name' find 'Processor' and tell me the Mhz.
Under 'OS Name' find 'Total Physical Memory' and tell me the MBs.

The devs have stated that there are problems with integrated Intel chips, namely because they're terrific at not doing 3d well.

I also remember something saying Intel integrated cards won't cut it. And trust me I had the same graphics setup for years. It ran everything slow. RoN at 4.1 avg. fps. and thats on 16bit. I got fed up and bought a new one. Radeon 9250 128mb are pretty cheap. It'll run you about $100.

edit: Well i bought and it works. I'm not getting the benefits of the 3d drive but i've never been into these things for the graphics. Not sure how well it will hold up on a massive late game but I'm enjoying it so far
