Need a quick bit of help

I just started playing the game last night and I'm liking it quite a lot. Some things I can't seem to figure out though...

1. I need someone to explain step by step what I have to click to declare war on another race. While in the "negotiations" screen with the race I want to attack, my only treaty options are "Surrender" or "Attack" and the attack menu drop down does not contain the name of the race I want to attack (the guys I'm talking to in the negotiations screen)

So far the only way I've been able to work it out is by talking to another seperate race, and then "offering" my declaration of war against the guys I really want to attack. Is that the only way? It doesn't seem right...

2. Is there a tech-tree somewhere specifically for ships and the requirements of building them?

There is no *direct* means of declaring war aside from simply attacking your victim of choice.

Is there a tech-tree somewhere specifically for ships and the requirements of building them?

Not yet that I'm aware, but if you're particularly enamored of the core ships, you can get a list of their components here: http://miscfile.alienharmony.com/galciv2/core-ship-list.htm and look up the requirements of each component in the Galactopedia linked in the stickies.

You really are better off designing your own ships than trying to get the core designs. Most of them are pretty poor stats-wise and you cannot change the designs to account for various situations unless you make your own.

1. Just take a fully loaded battlecruiser and park it on the square that has their homeworld parked on it. I find that having an alien race turn up and sit a bloody great battlecruiser in your own front yard tends to move them into declaring war on you LOL If not hit them with everything you have.. Hard and fast
