Since I've played a lot of strategy games, mostly RTS, but also MOO2 etc in the contrast. So I was thinking about different offensive strategies for the game and I was wondering what you pros think of this blitz krieg kind of strategy. Striking fast, striking deep, into the heart of the beast.
In MOO2, I used to have this race that could develop a tech very quickly and get few offensive ships that cost a lot, but were superior for some time in the game. This way I could take out 2 or 3 capitals of other races before they caught up. Would this kind of approach work in GCII? Basically the thing is that the first attack would be swift, powerful and targeted at opponents capital. Even if he has a lot of ships, when you penetrate the defences and destroy the capital, you will have done extensive if not unrepairable (well on the short term at least) damage to your opponent, even if he can get it back.
Is it worth it to go on such approach, or would you rather try to grind off the smaller planets, bit-by-bit until you've surrounded your opponent?
On a complitely unrelated note, you pros who have had time and money to test all kinds of different strategies, can you compare hard teching against massive fast production of military? And how to make the production thing work so that you can really do okay with the marginal ships against comp spouting out massive fleets too?
