If you simply set the 'cheats' command line parameter, you'll still be able to play and submit Metaverse games as long as you don't use any cheats. If you use any cheats during a game, that game won't be counted if you submit it to the Metaverse. And, as others have pointed out here, if one violates the sanctity of the Metaverse data set, games played with that altered data set will not be counted when submitted to the Metaverse (and you may not even be informed of that happening). Therefore, you shouldn't mess around with any files contained in folders with 'metaverse' in their names. 
And, no, I'm not going to tell you what any of the cheats are.
