SW Empire at War, 2 great space games released within a week of each other!

Kinda off topic I know, but I've been watch both games for a while now, and I must say that us space strategy geeks are extremely lucky this year! Both SW Empire at War, and GC 2 look awesome! Both are space strategy games while offering different gameplay. Conquering the universe should be a blast!!!

I wonder if Stardock will be taking a break from GalCiv 2 by playing some Empire at War?

Well I'll tell ya. I've recently played the Empire at War demo. My feelings? If I just had $40/45/50 to spend on one game, I'd go for GalCiv2. Why? I'm not a RTS person. Which is not to say that EAW is not a cool game. Quite the opposite. It's one of the first RTS games that I've enjoyed for a while. It seems (by the demo) to have toned down the crap that turns me off to RTS games. There is one, and only one commodity. Money. You get that from owning planets. Nice, says I.

The controls are pretty easy to learn and the graphics are state of the art. Will I buy it? I dunno, maybe. In the future, perhaps. But I recently preordered GalCiv2 and expect my gametime to be wrapped up in that.

And of course Master of Magic on my laptop.

EAW looks good but my first love is TBS. Her name is Galactic Civilizations 2.

I will get both and enjoy them they are diffrent and so they are realy not concurrend with each ather...for the one poster before me..hmm you poor boy you have only money for one game? but you have also a laptop very funny

A friend of mine told me about it, but I wasn't impressed that much by the screenshots and trailers. Will download the demo though to give it a try (and to shorten the wait for GalCiv 2...).

I really enjoyed the demo and have pre-ordered both games. I agree that the 15th to the 22nd will be a very good week for us space game/sci fi fans

Its been a long time coming and I can't want to strap on a pair of blasters and get down with some solid sci-fi action.

Although in a contest between Galactic Civilizations and Empire at War, GalCiv is the better game to me. I played the Empire at war demo and wasn't overly impressed. Don't get me wrong, it looks like a fantastic game but not quite a match for GalCiv.

Enough comparing. Bring on the Galactic dictators and despots! (or peacenik rebels and diplomatic victors if that’s your thing)

The two games are very different and both have great qualities. I personally preordered both of them and I will really enjoy playing them both.

I like how after a few days of release, the demo for Empire at War had already been modded (check lucasforums). Now, all the units are available and the only thing I'm waiting on is the campaigns and different maps. Still, I like both games but I only preordered GalCiv. Couldn't wait for all the goodies.

I think that GC2 is going to provide many more hours of gameplay for me than EAW. That, and the fact that almost all of the games under the Star Wars liscence have been horrible.

GC2 really had me hooked based on just the concept of the game and the screenshots. And I have not even played the beta.

To be fair, my intentions are to get as much mileage out of GC2 and wait until EAW is 20 bucks.

He said almost all, which I find hard to disagree with. Tie Fighter is one of my favorite games, and KotOR was quite awesome, but I wouldn't even consider buying most Star Wars games.

That said, EaW has a solid developer and is pretty fun from what I've seen of the demo. For me: I don't think the RTS element is as fleshed out as it could be (there's no base building to that part so tactical combat should be a critical part of gameplay, yet it all breaks into chaotic battles relying on numbers), and the galactic stuff isn't as deep as a typical TBS.

Anyway both games are compitly diffrend both have ahter systems but both are great on there side...and please the demo of EaW is a very smal part think of 42 times bigger than the demo..and it's not nessassary to follow the campain. the atmosphäre is quit good that any STWARWARS-Fan will enjoy of the rebellionside or of my favorit empireside...it sucks that always at the end the "good" ones win

Can't say I really cared for the Empire at War demo, but then RTS games really aren't my thing. It looks and sounds great, however.

Hmm, just tried the demo. Seemed a bit simplistic. All those systems you can attack on a ship is interesting, though they don't really seem to help that much. Bombing runs seem a tad overpowered. They're kinda like nukes.

The cinematic camera was blah. Camera switched a bit too often, and seemed buggy, like flickering back and forth.

Gameplay reminds me of Rise of Nations though, which is nice. But I think I'll hold out for Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends or Supreme Commander for my next RTS game.

Greatly looking forward to Supreme Commander myself. Loved Total Annihilation, once I got past the "build ships in the lagoon" mission. I don't recall if it was mission 6 or 7 but it had me stumped for a while. I almost gave up on the game there. Glad I didn't.

I have been waiting a while for GC2 and didn't realize it was releasing a week after EAW. I marched into my EB Store today and promptly switched my preorder from EAW to GC2. EAW looks good but it will not match the depth of strategic gameplay available in GC2. Brad, Stardock and GC2 FTW

Of course it is not made for this a roundbased game without multiplayer can be very deeply very complicatet very stragtical very tactical...you can spend hours to beginn to take action against a enemie


but in a realtime-game like EaW you can't do like this it must be fast no one will wait so long till you end your turn.

I agree with this point and hope it will be fixed before it get out in the stores...perhaps it a bit more controllabylitie (however this word is to write in english
